Dennis Rodman is undoubtedly one of the most polarizing and controversial figures in NBA history. Rodman is known as one of the most aggressive and fearsome defenders the league has ever seen. His play style has made numerous headlines. However, his aggressiveness often spilled out off the court, as Rodman shared an incident when he kicked a cameraman.

Rodman is known for his colored hair, his rebounding prowess on the court, and his controversial friendship with the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-Un.

Rodman is undoubtedly one of the most unique figures in NBA history. His eccentric style and sunglasses have come to define him since his retirement from the game. An incident during the Chicago Bulls vs. Minnesota Timberwolves game back on January 15, 1997, attracted the attention of the entire world. Rodman rolled out of bounds while attempting to catch a rebound.

As he recollected himself, a cameraman named Eugene Amos turned his camera towards Rodman. And then Rodman did something unexpected.

He was frustrated and subsequently kicked the cameraman near his groin area. Amos was visibly in pain as he was later taken out of the arena on a stretcher. The game was stopped for a while and in no time, Rodman made international headlines and was heavily criticized for his actions.

Back in 1997, during an interview on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’, Rodman shared his thoughts on the incident. He said, “It was a bad thing on my part, it wasn’t that I was trying to kick the guy, I was kicking the camera that was on the floor.” He further added, “When I kicked him, I hit the camera and I hit him.” And the next thing he knew, Rodman found himself facing a lawsuit.

Rodman was later banned for 11 games and fined $25,000 by the NBA as a result of this incident. The Chicago Bulls legend was also compelled to pay the cameraman $200,000 in compensation.
