Ever since the off-season began, one name was continuously mentioned in trade reports, Detroit Pistons’ veteran guard Derrick Rose. The 32-year-old has constantly been seen as a good piece to add to a championship contending team.
In an amazing turn of events, the New York Knicks have swooped in the 2010 MVP. The Athletic’s Shams Charania recently confirmed that Rose has been traded to the Knicks for 23-year-old guard Dennis Smith Jr. and draft considerations.

Rose is certainly a big upgrade to the Knicks’ backcourt. With three quality guards in Rose, Elfrid Payton and Immanuel Quickley, it will be interesting to see whom coach Tom Thibodeau starts with.
It will also be a new chance for DSJ, who had fallen out of favour for the Knicks and had even requested to be in the G-League. The 23-year-old has shown flashes of being a talented player, and the struggling Pistons might be the perfect opportunity for him to show his class.
The biggest losers with this trade, however, will be contending teams like the Clippers and the Bucks who were reportedly interested to trade for him.
Rose would have been a welcome addition to these teams. Given the efficiency ‘D Rose‘ has shown from the bench, he could have been the steal.

However, their backcourt has lacked a veteran presence, despite some solid young guards. Needless to say, Rose is an ideal addition and can be a guide for the younger guards.
Notably, the 32-year-old will begin his second stint with the Knicks. In the solitary season he was in New York, he averaged 18 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. Can he recreate his magic this time around?
