When you are a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, you have a huge spotlight on you. Without question, one of the biggest markets in sports, and one of its most prestigious franchises, the Lakers are always under fire. Especially, when you pair that up with perhaps the most polarizing figure in NBA history – LeBron James. But, it got worse. A drawn-out divorce between Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans to force a trade to the Lakers further added fuel to the fire. Now, the team is constantly under the spotlight and the pressure on them is immense. While teams currently in the league going after the team they wanna take down makes sense, the surprise came courtesy of the 2023 NBA draft.

Rookies aiming for LeBron James and Anthony Davis

The 2023 NBA Draft has the potential to go down as one of the best ever. While generational prospect Victor Wembanysms has grabbed all the headlines, the entire class is loaded. Stalwarts like Cam Whitmore fell to the 20th pick for crying out loud.

From Paul George fanatic Brandon Miller to family-made Scoot Henderson, there is something on offer for every NBA team. Unfortunately for the Lakers, it seems like all they get is another target?on?their?backs.

When asked about who they most look forward to dunking on, the names that were most common were James and Davis. As one of the premier NBA duos, the answer made sense from a competitive standpoint.

Coming after the biggest dog would make you stand out instantly. AD’s defensive prowess, especially visible during the 2023 playoffs, makes him a prime candidate as well. However, fans weren’t so forgiving.

Fans quick to rebuff rookie class

One fan was quick to jump on the rookie class saying the reality would be far harsher than the dream. “Little Nephews won?t be saying that shit in 6 months. Just wait..” Another fan put into perspective how insane an 18-year-old putting a target on a 40-year-old man is. “The fact they want to dunk on a 40-year-old man”?

In the closest impression to Anthony Davis’ classic, “Ain’t no fun when the rabbit got the gun,”?one fan showed the rookies a mirror. “They got to be careful what they wish for bc it comes back around to you.” Another fan was more straightforward in his rebuttal of the “kids”. “Stay humble kids!!!”?

While the rookie class has called out the Lakers duo, it comes from a competitive perspective, and we know the Lakers will be ready for all comers. In a separate poll, most of the class chose LeBron when asked to pick between him and Michael Jordan. Perhaps, the narrative is changing.
