Luka Doncic has been an extraordinary performer throughout the 2022-23 NBA season. The Dallas Mavericks superstar was joined by Kyrie Irving before the February 9th trade deadline. Naturally, fans expected that it was a confirmatory sign of the Mavericks running away with the league. However, the predictions have turned out to be completely false, while some critics have pointed out holes in Doncic’s game.

Following that, fans who were more than impressed with Doncic’s season, stood beside him while clapping back at the critics. The Mavericks’ season has become shaky recently, as they’ve lost five of their last seven games, also suffering their 40th loss of the season on Wednesday. In the search for holes in the squad following their dismal performances, some have found one in their Slovenian superstar, Luka Doncic, albeit to be rebutted with the rage of the youngster’s fans.

The Dallas Mavericks are on the verge of getting kicked out of the NBA Playoffs sitting at the 11th position in their conference. Understandably, many are upset how Doncic’s powerful 32.8 PPG in the 2022-23 season didn’t turn out favorable results.

However, when everyone was looking at other places for answers to Mavericks’ problems, one scout chose to look at the player with the season’s second-highest point average. According to Tim MacMahon on The Lowe Post, one NBA scout has found some glaring holes in Doncic’s gameplay.

“I did have a scout tell me he’s the worst transition defender in the history of basketball,” said MacMohan. He added, “When he said that, I thought he had analytical evidence. I’m like, ‘Statistically?’ And he goes, ‘No, just watch him.’”

Out of all the criticism that has come the way of the Mavericks, this surely must be the one they are not paying any heed to. As the 24-year-old Slovenian has been the most valuable performer for the Dallas side.

Meanwhile, MacMohan’s words weren’t popular with many NBA fans, as they observed how the opinions of the certain scout were more of an opinion, than visible statistical results. Additionally, Doncic has always been an offensive player, so calling him the “worst” defender without statistics felt unfair to them.

The Mavericks fans swarmed the report on Twitter, as they felt 32.8 PPG in a season certainly doesn’t deserve criticism. Moreover, the fans mentioned how there was more to the Mavericks’ problems than Doncic’s ‘transition defending’ weakness.

Fans argued how scoring over 2,000 points in the NBA season warrants these issues to be excused.
