While Jordan was in the league, the NBA rose to new heights. He became one of the biggest sports personalities in the world. Moreover, his fame reached far and wide as he truly transcended the boundaries of the NBA.
And so, like every celebrity, Jordan too got the chance to host Saturday Night Live (SNL) back in 1991. At the time, Chris Rock was part of the show’s cast. He revealed an interesting incident with Jordan where the two almost had dinner together until MJ decided to back out.
Chris Rock’s Michael Jordan Story
While sneaker shopping with Joe La Puma, Chris Rock revealed a story of how he nearly had dinner with MJ when the latter was on SNL. Rock began the story by explaining the stature of MJ’s fame. Despite having celebrities appear regularly on the show, Jordan’s fame was above and beyond, so much so that there was a policeman outside his dressing room.
Thereafter, Rock spoke about the incident where he and fellow cast members almost had dinner with the NBA superstar.
“I remember at one point, it was me, Farley, Sandler, and Spade. We’re going to go to McDonald’s because we used to go to McDonald’s like down in the subway,” said Rock.
“And Jordan was about to come with us. I think we got to the elevator and somebody said something and he was like ‘I can’t go guys,'” explained Rock.
“But it was cool. We got to hang out with him the whole week and everything,” he added.

Thereafter, Rock spoke about the size of Jordan’s fame and mentioned that it was like ‘hanging around Ironman’ whenever he was with MJ.
Jordan and the Bulls
For more than a decade, Jordan was the centerpiece of the Chicago Bulls. Drafted in 1984 as the 3rd overall pick, Jordan began his NBA career with a flying start. He was even selected as an All-Star in his rookie season. However, title success eluded Jordan for 6 years until 1990.
It was in the 1990-91 season that MJ would claim the NBA’s coveted Larry O’Brien trophy. Thereafter, and in spectacular fashion, he helped the Bulls achieve two more titles in 1992 and 1993.

However, it was after this that MJ took the decision to step away from the game. But he would return to the Bulls in 1994-95 after a brief stint with baseball. Soon after that, the Bulls would accomplish their second three-peat from the ’95-96 season to the ’97-98 season.
