Michael Jordan has always been known for his game. He is one of the legends in NBA history. In the ’90s his dominance was always popular during the games. He had to prove himself, in the beginning, to be hailed as a legend.

Jordan was drafted in 1984. It would be seven years before he’d win his first title. It wasn’t that simple to predict how good he was going to be and establish his name through his game.

In a recent interview with Glen Macnow and Ray Didinger, Doug Collins mentions some of his experiences with Jordan in the 9o’s.

“I wish I would have known when I taken the job how good Michael really was going to be,” said Collins. “I mean, Michael had just come off the playoffs where he had had a broken foot. During the year he had missed, I think all but 18 games. He then came back in the playoffs. And I mean the show he put on in Boston garden against the Celtics. The Bulls were under coach Collins from 1986 to 1989, which is very popular because of Jordan’s game 63-point playoff game against Larry Bird’s Celtics.

Collins explained Jordan’s words to him: “He says I’ve got to show them something every night they’ve never seen. At the same time, we want to win basketball games. ‘ And guys, I will tell you also many a day we would check in a hotel at night, early in the morning, there would be 200 to 300 people standing outside waiting to see Michael just like Elvis. They waited to see… Or for an autograph. So yeah, I saw that celebrity up close and personal in my first coaching job”.

Collins and Jordan’s equation has always been an interest to the audience, as people are aware of the respect that Jordan gives to Collins. But it still excites many NBA fans to know about the 90’s era when Jordan was the king of the NBA.
