The Dallas Mavericks ended the season terribly as they couldn’t even make it into the play-in tournament, let alone the playoffs despite having a good start. They acquired Kyrie Irving from Brooklyn Nets prior to the trade deadline in February in the hopes of winning a championship, but that proved to be the beginning of their downfall this season. They are now looking forward to coming back stronger next season. Meanwhile, a piece of news recently emerged on social media that details Mark Cuban’s plan worth $272 million for Irving which might also please Luka Doncic.

The Mavericks hoped to build on their Western Conference Finals appearance last year. However, things went south way quicker than they would have ever expected. The update took the internet by storm as it caught the attention of fans and prompted them to reflect on the affair on social media.

The Mavs lost 18 out of 28 games after the arrival of Irving. Moreover, Kyrie and Doncic didn’t thrive on the court together as they could only win five out of 16 games that they played together. Despite all this, the eight-time All-Star expressed his gratitude to GM Nico Harrison for the treatment he received from the organization. This, in turn, made Harrison reveal that they are looking forward to re-signing the 2016 champion in the offseason as he is going to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

He said, “I think the things that he said along the way about how he feels here, how he feels appreciated – those are the things that he said kind of consistently. That’s what gives me the optimism that he wants to be here.”

Cuban is trying to keep the duo united and see how it pans out in the next season. However, considering his track record of leaving a team suddenly after making promises to stay, it’s pretty unclear whether the eight-time All-Star would stay or not – only time will tell. The 2016 NBA champion is eligible to sign a five-year contract worth $272 million with the Mavs. Moreover, he also has another opportunity: sign a four-year contract worth $201.7 million with any other team in the league.

Fans lost their minds after coming across the news

Legion Hoops re-shared the news on Twitter and fans swarmed into the comment section to express their thoughts. They had mixed reactions to the news. One fan wrote, “Your franchise might never recover if you give Kyrie 5 years $272M”. Here are some of the reactions of fans:

A few fans even predicted where he is going to play next season.

However, some users believed that the Mavs should give him the contract.
