Met Gala 2023 – fashion’s biggest night – paid tribute to the late legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld in New York on May 1. Many famous faces attended, among then the three-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade. The former Miami Heat player looked gorgeous in his all-black outfit and grabbed everyone’s attention including the media. While addressing them, the 13x All-Star talked about his daughter Zaya’s struggles, outlining the reason for taking a massive decision in 2021.

Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union had bought a massive 11,690 square-feet property, located on the northern tip of Miami Beach for $10.6 million in 2010. However, the duo sold it in 2021 for a whopping $22 million and decided to move away from Florida. They currently reside in California.

Wade recently acknowledged that he left Florida for some of its laws. A journalist asked him at the Met Gala about his message to the queer community, a substantial number among which has left Florida, scared of the laws of the state. The three-time NBA champion responded by saying, “Well, first of all, I left for a lot of reasons …I left to support my wife in LA. One of our decisions was where (it) was gonna be the safest and best community for our daughter, Zaya. LA was one of the safe and best communities…”

The three-time NBA champion added, “I love Miami. Miami’s done so much for me …but the last couple of years, the laws and the politics has really become this big conversation, this unsafe conversation. It’s unsafe for my daughter. It’s unsafe for all the young kids and the youth, adults and elders in trans community. I came for the safety of my family …I couldn’t move back.”
