Over ten years have passed since the divorce, yet, Shaquille O’Neal is not yet immune to emotional outbursts about losing “the perfect one.” Recently, he walked into the podcast set with a lot of regrets. The 4x NBA champion took people by surprise after claiming his ex-wife Shaunie, who remarried Pastor Keion Henderson last year, was still his wife.

The Houston Pastor got sympathy from the folks over at Tea-G-I-F who disclosed the story. Despite being associated with Charles Barkley, who’s also known for his offensive comments, this time around, it’s Shaq who has seemingly put his foot in his mouth.

Shaquille O’Neal makes an honest confession about Shaunie

While Shaunie continues her successful marriage, Shaq might not be over his ex-wife. As per the Tea-G-I-F team, on Monica’s new podcast, Shaq was initially all praise for his ex-wife. “Shaunie’s married. I’m happy for her… I’m going to still love her.” So far, so good. It was the next part that bothered the crew.

“She’s still my wife. I will always protect, provide and love her,” Shaq said, according to the host. While discussing the issue, the crew had a problem with O’Neal’s comments. First, Al Reynolds explained Shaq’s side. “Shaq is just a fun comical guy… I think he did it in a spirit of fun.” Quentin Latham, better known as Funky, however, had a different mindset.

“I think the verbiage was disrespectful…it’s disrespectful to say to a married woman she will always be my wife. No, that’s that man’s wife,” he said. Claudio put a bow on the entire conversation from Keion’s perspective. “Imagine the shoes that the new husband has to fill already with Shaunie O’Neil and Shaq…I’m sure it doesn’t feel like a joke to the new husband.”

While Shaq surely meant no harm with the comments, fans can take solace in knowing Shaunie’s current relationship is soaring well.

Shaunie was all praise for her new husband Keion

Serving as guests on The Replay Discussion, Shaunie and Keion gave a simple answer to the secret to a successful marriage. Shaunie elaborated on the key ingredient that made the two work as a couple; Communication. She apparently took a subtle jab at her ex-husband while elaborating on it.

Shaunie said, “Communication is huge, which no one told me the first time around.” As she continued, she explained the entire process the two of them follow. “One thing my husband did… What’s our goal for the next month? The next 3 months? The next 6 months… It went all the way to 5 years.”
