NBA fans mostly know Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant as a quiet and introverted player. Moreover, he probably doesn’t need to be vocal, given that his on-court performance does all the talking for him. However, the Nets forward has always expressed his opinions when needed and continues to do so. The two-time NBA champion recently talked about certain circumstances he faced during the 2019 NBA Finals. In response, former NFL superstar Shannon Sharpe reminded Durant how his one decision cost him his third championship.

Kevin Durant is arguably in his best form since his achilles injury in 2019. Despite being neck-deep in controversies, the Brooklyn Nets are crushing their opponents on the court. The team recently won their eighth straight game against the Milwaukee Bucks on December 23. The Nets gradually climbed their way up the ladder landing fourth in the Eastern Conference putting the team, especially KD, under a constant spotlight. However, Durant’s recent comments sparked a discussion between Shannon Sharpe and UNDISPUTED co-host Skip Bayless.

In an interview with the Washington Post, Kevin Durant stated that he left the Golden State Warriors because he ‘just wanted to play ball somewhere else’. He also added that following the 2019 loss, he wanted to go back and win the Finals. However, he didn’t want to do it because he wanted to be the best of all. Instead, he just wanted to ‘wake up everyday and do what I do’. However, former Denver Broncos player, Shannon Sharpe felt that part of the reason KD didn’t win his third championship was that he left the Warriors.

In an episode of the UNDISPUTED, Sharpe and co-host Skip Bayless talked about KD’s interview with WP. Recalling the 2019 NBA Finals and KD’s achilles injury, Sharpe said that he mostly created the circumstances he was talking about. Sharpe added that if Durant didn’t have the achilles injury and Klay Thompson hadn’t gotten hurt, KD could have won his third championship with the Warriors.

“Unless God himself comes down and tell me, ‘Nah, Toronto was going to win that series’, I’m not believing anybody’s gonna tell me that the Toronto Raptors , as they were assembled, could beat the Golden State Warriors, with a healthy Klay Thompson and a healthy Kevin Durant,” said Sharpe.

Kevin Durant just wants to play hoops

In the same interview with WP, Kevin Durant expressed his wish to play basketball from the shadows. The Brooklyn Nets forward said he didn’t want to play the game to prove himself better than other NBA players. Considered one of the best players in the league, KD expressed his desire to play the game he loved wholeheartedly. However, he didn’t wish to be part of any GOAT debates.

Seems like something an introverted basketball player would say. Nevertheless, it doesn’t change the fact that someone with Durant’s skills and level of recognition wouldn’t be able to escape the attention of the media and the world.
