Before his retirement in 2017, Pierce and James had numerous duels on the court. Although the former couldn’t win as many titles as ‘The King’, he was always a fiery competitor. And according to Paul, being told off every now and then makes one learn a lot. In a recent interview with the Athletic, Pierce spoke about taking a hit or two, and using it to drive yourself towards greater heights.

“That’s what stars need to do man,” Pierce said with regard to overcoming adversities. He had an epic shootout against LeBron in a 2nd Round Game-7 once. “You gotta take their hits. I’ve always been like if you’re gonna bust my ass, then so be it. But I’m gonna take the challenge. LeBron was great, I was able to be great, and we just brought out the best in each other.”
