While named? The City Of Brotherly Love,?Philadelphia is famous for its vociferous fans. Whether it be Ben Simmons or Charles Barkley, players have had to face the wrath of the Philly faithful. While some stars gel to that attitude, ala Joel Embiid, many don’t. As a result, going after the Philadelphia crowd is a common practice. After Charles Barkley called out the fans for their treatment in ’91, it was time for a current 76ers star to slam them.

30-year-old star has some strong words for the Philadelphia 76ers fans

After a disappointing end to the 2023 season, Philly needed a strong workaround. While a dip in Embiid’s performance and James Harden’s playoff struggles took some of the blame, the majority fell on head coach Doc Rivers’ shoulders.

However, one person who was safe from most of the criticism was forward Tobias Harris. Or, more accurately, was safe from criticism from the national media. Those in Philadelphia went after the former Clippers star, clamoring for a trade.

With the new CBA and Toby’s huge contract on opposite ends of the spectrum, a trade seems inevitable. However, as rumors suggest, Philly’s asking price has been absurd. From the Cavs, they demanded block machine Jarrett Allen, DPOY candidate Evan Mobley, and future picks.

As a result, the trade fell through. While fans were upset at the asking price, Harris seems to think it was a fair price. Talking about the fans, he said, “Casual Sixers fans, they’ll trade me for a Crumbl cookie.”?Hyping up his own value, Tobias continued, “They have to realize…You’re not getting a 6’9 forward back who can…Damn near shoot 40% from three, guard the other team’s best player, shoot, post-up, drive, play 70+ games a year.”

While Tobias certainly seems to think highly of himself, as any player should, his shots at the fans might result in some pushback. Just ask Charles Barkley.

Charles Barkley highlights the harshness of Philly fans

A move that was supposed to be touching was viewed as anything but by the Philadelphia fans. After Magic Johnson’s tragic retirement on the back of his HIV diagnosis in 1991, Barkley decided to honor his friend.

He decided to change his jersey number from 34 to 32. The problem? The number was already retired and in the rafters for Philly legend, Billy Cunningham. As a result, fans were extremely upset and led expletive-filled rants on live radio shows.

The move upset Barkley a great deal and ultimately led to his departure from the team in 1992. Perhaps another Sixers forward’s rocky relationship with the fans could lead to a similar end. While extremely talented players, both Charles and Harris couldn’t win over the Philadelphia faithful.
