“Some Guys Don’t Make Great Decisions”: Billionaire Michael Jordan Gets Dragged Into Lamar Jackson Saga Only to Teach Him a Lesson

Michael Jordan and his impact on the league is not restricted to his six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls, but also extends to the NBA’s popularity overseas. His Airness has also succeeded in replicating his leadership on the court in several ventures outside the confinements of the hardwood, amassing a staggering net worth of over $2 billion. However, MJ was dragged into a Lamar Jackson anecdote recently, only to illustrate a very important point.
The Chicago Bulls legend had taken the world by storm with the influence of his Jordan brand post retirement. Although some of his decisions haven’t fared well on the big stage, Jordan could still act as an example for young stars like Lamar Jackson, who are plagued with bad decision-making skills. Recently, a popular talking head addressed the issue.

The NBA fans lit up like a Christmas tree in 2010, when Michael Jordan decided to buy a majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets’ fans were especially excited as the NBA legend was known for his Midas’ touch in basketball. However, over a decade later, the Charlotte side has nothing to show for, except a handful of playoff appearances. The team hasn’t shown any signs of success, even though they’ve recruited some very exciting players over the years, like LaMelo Ball.
In a recent episode on the Colin Cowherd Podcast, the veteran media personality sat down with Sam Smith, the famous Chicago Bulls writer and the author of The Jordan Rules. Cowherd mentioned how the misfortunes of the Charlotte side are confusing as Jordan is a solid decision-maker, unlike Baltimore Ravens star, Lamar Jackson.

“First of all, he[Michael Jordan] was a very good decision-maker. David Falk, Phil Knight, Phil Jackson, he tended to have excellent judgment and be pretty picky on the people that he’d choose to guide his journey,” said Cowherd.
He added, “And by the way, I’m watching Lamar Jackson now, he has his mom as an agent. Now he got an agent today, that’s not registered. Some guys don’t make great decisions, Michael made very solid decisions…on the people that pitched him, and he listened to.“
Cowherd’s example of Lamar Jackson stems from the fact that the Ravens QB chose his mother as his agent. Many have speculated that his decision of not opting for a professional agent might be the reason why he doesn’t have a second contract with the Baltimore side.
Cowherd hinted that, despite some of MJ’s failures as the Chairperson of the Charlotte Hornets, Jackson could learn how to keep the best people around him to enhance his brand. One could argue that Jackson’s decision of allowing his mother to control his management might come from his innate trust in her. However, fans would remember how despite MJ’s closeness to his parents, he left the important responsibilities to the professionals.

Furthermore, these decisions have become a significant obstacle in the career and image of 26-year-old Jackson, while Michael Jordan, on the other hand, made choices at the same age that propelled him to become a household name worldwide.

Is MJ going to sell the Hornets?
A few weeks ago, reports indicated that the legendary Bulls player was interested in selling his majority stake to a group of owners headed by Gabe Plotkin and Richard Schnall and that they had engaged in “serious discussions” regarding the matter.
However, just recently, MJ’s management company released a statement mentioning how the discussions are ongoing and how it is “unclear whether an additional sale will take place.“ Only time will tell MJ’s plans with the Charlotte side, as fans are perfectly placed on the edge of their seat.
