Stephen Curry Describes the First Time He Made His Signature No-Look Three in the NBA: “It Was the Magnitude of the Moment… It Was Like the Perfect Storm”

Courtesy of their brilliance, some NBA players go on to create a legacy that never leaves the game. One such player is Stephen Curry, or as he is famously called, the ‘Baby Face Assassin.’ Considered the best in the three-point era in today’s NBA, Curry has a signature move; His look-away three never gets old as he continues to make it look effortless. Recently, while speaking to The Athletic, Curry revealed how he first came up with it.

During the 2013 playoffs, Curry and the Warriors were making a run when he debuted his signature shooting move.

Steph has provided the NBA with some insane shooting performances. Not only does he have the range, but the consistency with which he knocks down shots is unreal. To top it off, Curry’s confidence in his stroke is something only a few players have.

Being the best shooter on the planet, there is a lot of pressure on the Warriors star. Understandably, the expectation to constantly deliver could get overwhelming at times. However, Steph feeds off the energy of his teammates. Even when he first got the no-look three to the NBA, it was all because of the driving force of his teammates and the feeling of his shot.

Stephen Curry explained, “It was the magnitude of the moment. First playoff series. Unreal atmosphere. We were making a third-quarter run. I don’t know what it was about that moment. Just, I was feeling it. I could feel everybody behind me. I don’t know. It was like the perfect storm. Feeling their presence, the rhythm of the shot. Everything felt perfect. And I did it.”

It was in 2013 when the Warriors were taking on the Denver Nuggets in the playoffs. It was Curry’s first playoff series, and he was looking to make it count. While the Warriors were leading a run in the third quarter, Steph got the ball in the corner. Right in front of the Nuggets bench, he gave the defender a pump fake and had all the time in the world.

While the ball was still in the air, the Baby Face Assassin turned right to the Nuggets bench. He silenced them as the ball swished into the Net and, for Steph, it became a move that would solidify his mark as the greatest shooter ever. Since then, Curry often makes the look away three, and more often than not, the result doesn’t change.
