LeBron James, despite the Lakers having a poor season, has enjoyed success on a personal level. He recently passed Karl Malone for 2nd place on the All-Time Scoring List. Moreover, the ‘King’ became the first player to enter the 30K, 10K, 10K club. Additionally, LeBron’s scoring prowess has been unstoppable this season as he is in contention for the scoring title.

This has led to some folks giving LeBron the edge over Michael Jordan in the GOAT debate. One such person is Nick Wright. Wright believes that LeBron has the upper hand because MJ ‘quit’ the NBA twice, never beat Larry Bird in the playoffs, and could only go above the 0.500 mark once he turned 25. This angered many fans on Twitter who responded in favor of MJ.

Naw, but maybe tell him not to quit the sport twice, try to beat Larry Bird a single *game* in the playoffs & to not wait to until he was 25 to finish above .500? 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ https://t.co/fqW76zaiCv

Twitter Reacts to Nick Wright Giving LeBron James the Upper Hand
In response to Wright, many fans responded with harsh criticism of LeBron. They claimed that the ‘King’ never won as much as MJ despite him changing teams.
He “quit” the sport twice, couldn’t beat Larry one game, didn’t finish above .500 until he was 25 and he STILL has more rings, FMVPs, MVPs, and DPOYs than LeBron?!?!?
Damn… Maybe LBJ should have took MJ’s path to greatness.

Instead LeBron became the biggest team hopper and ring chaser in NBA history and will always be disrespected because he sold out and still won less.

The “quit the sport” narrative continues to be the most disingenuous thing in talking head media. But as usual Nick Wright and disingenuous, go together like LeBron and ring chasing.

Lmao dude retired twice and came back and won again lmao dude came into the league and got into the playoffs his first season bron couldn’t do that
— Tay (@TAYT99) March 22, 2022
Ok so you’re saying, MJ between age of 25 and 36, with effectively 2 years off during this time, has won 6 finals, 6 FMVP, 5 MVP, 1 DPOY, 10 scoring titles, all more than LBJ could achieve in 19 years? Naw, maybe tell LeBron not to chase someone that he’s never going to catch

Clearly, the fans have hit back at Nick Wright for his words. They believe that MJ is still the GOAT and LeBron is second in the debate.
How Can the GOAT Debate Change in LeBron’s Favor?
It is quite clear that MJ’s arrival to the NBA transformed the league for the better. If you were a Bulls fan in the ’90s, it was definitely an exciting time. Despite retiring twice, Jordan gave Chicago 6 titles that included 2 three-peats.
On the other hand, LeBron has not had the same title success as MJ. Despite being to the finals on multiple occasions, he only has 4 rings to show. However, LeBron’s ability to take over games even at 37 is something that can give him the advantage. If he is to win another title at an age when most retire, it could potentially shift the debate in LeBron’s favor.

For starters, winning isn’t easy. Moreover, winning in your late 30s makes it even harder. So the only way out is for LeBron to continue his high level of play.

At the end, it’s the titles that every player yearns for. It’s, in fact, the goal of every team in the NBA as well. So regardless of how many records LeBron breaks on a personal level, they will never change the standing of the debate unless he wins a title.
As he ages, LeBron’s record-breaking performances are definitely world-class. However, him winning a title will make it a storybook ending for the ‘King’ when he retires.
