NBA fans backed Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell earlier after one of his tweets got him trolled. In the digital era, it is crucial to tread carefully. On 18 December 2022, the entire world’s eyes were on the World Cup Finals and so was Mitchell’s. However, little did he know that he would spot a possible fan among the sea of soccer fanatics. While Mitchell found the fan’s jersey number quite funny, the same could not be said for the Twitterati.

The Lusail stadium was filled with excited fans wearing Argentina and France jerseys but there was also a fan spotted wearing an NBA jersey. A picture posted by Bleacher Report showed a spectator wearing a bright yellow Utah Jazz jersey with Mitchell’s number on it.

The irony is not lost that Mitchell is no longer a Jazz player as he was signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2022. Therefore, he joked about sending the fan his new Cavaliers jersey instead. However, what seemed like a harmless joke gave Twitter users a reason to drag the three-time NBA All-Star under a negative spotlight.

Donovan Mitchell‘s latest tweet sparked a debate among the Twitterati. The Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard recently retweeted a photo from Bleacher Report. The picture was of the spectators from the World Cup Finals. It showed a vast number of soccer fans in Argentina jerseys. However, a particular fan was spotted wearing a Utah Jazz jersey with Mitchell’s No. 45.

Shortly after the former Jazz player posted the picture, fans began trolling Mitchell. They felt it necessary to remind him that the guy was a Jazz fan, not Mitchell. Donovan Mitchell signs a million-dollar contract with Cleveland Cavaliers

Donovan Mitchell was selected by the Utah Jazz through the 2017 NBA Draft. After playing for the Jazz for five seasons, Mitchell was traded to Cleveland Cavaliers in 2022. He signed a five-year contract worth $163 million with the Cavaliers before becoming a free agent in 2026. However, the Cavs weren’t the destination that Mitchell had in mind. According to Mitchell, the Jazz and the New York Knicks came very close to making the trade.

“I thought for sure I was going back home, I’m not gonna lie about that. Who doesn’t want to be home next to their mom?” Mitchell said during the Cavs press conference.

While Mitchell’s wish to return to his hometown could not be fulfilled, he sure was thrilled to be part of the Cavs. In the recent Cavs game against the Dallas Mavericks on December 17, Mitchell led his team to victory 100-99 by scoring 25 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
