Dennis Rodman’s eccentricities and innumerable bizarre escapades made him one of the NBA’s most notoriously remembered players. However, before the NBA legend became a personality who oozed life and individuality, Dennis Rodman had to survive a rough childhood.

Rodman grew up without a father, and with a mother who wasn’t really attentive. Growing up, he was deprived of parental love. So it’s not shocking that he battled to adjust to the role of a responsible father himself. In an interview with ESPN in 2019, ‘The Worm’ shed light on his relationship with his children.

While discussing his children, he indicated that all of the things he has been providing and supplying snatched away his time to be a father. Following that, the Chicago Bulls legend remarked that his children never saw him play basketball when they were growing up. He went on to say that all they heard were derogatory slurs and insults that people used to hurl at their father.

“That’s all they heard about me when they was growing up,” Rodman said. “Even though I was one of the most famous persons on the planet, so they never heard about the good stuff. It’s all the bad stuff about me, which wasn’t really bad,” he added.

Rodman then mentioned that his children no longer desired to go to school as people made fun of their father’s flamboyant personality.

“It got to the point that did not want to go the school anymore and all that crap,” noted Rodman. “I’m like that’s why I tell them…it’s my business, it’s my job but they actually kind of shot away from that…because they knew it hurt them more than anything because what I was doing.”
