Since LeBron James and Anthony Davis, LA Lakers are desperate to sign a third player to the team. They’re possibly looking at some big names to join the franchise. Names like Kyrie Irving and Chris Paul are coming up. While CP3 was rumored to add star power to Lakers, he is now a part of the Warriors.

The Lakers’ free-agency options this summer

As per the LA Times, on draft night, the Lakers were trying to complete a trade involving Malik Beasley and Mo Bamba. But they couldn’t find a deal they liked. However, the Lakers decided to waive Bamba before his contract became guaranteed and declined the team option on Beasley for the next season.

The Lakers now have the option to divide the $12.4 million among several players. With the amount they possess, they can now sign stars like Dennis Schroder, Georges Niang, Jevon Carter, Eric Gordon, Taurean Prince, Joe Ingles, Yuta Watanabe, Trey Lyles, and Seth Curry.

As per Yossi Gozlan, “The Lakers would be limited to re-signing Dennis Schroder to $3.8M (Non-Bird) or $4.5M (Bi-Annual) if they sign Bruce Brown with the $12.4M MLE.

And if Schroder accepts, his Early Bird rights would allow him to re-sign with the Lakers next season on a market-value multi-year deal.

However, a favorable scenario that can dissuade him from returning to the Lakers is a reunion with former Oklahoma City Thunder Head Coach, Billy Donovan.

The $84M blunder by Dennis the Menace

2 years ago, Schroder rejected the Lakers’ $84M contract. Their paths crossed again when the German agreed to a $2.6 million contract with the Lakers. This was down from the $84 million he was first offered. Shaquille O’Neal weighed in, as fans mocked Schroder for his mistake.

Schroder averaged 14.1 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.3 rebounds in just one season with the Celtics in 2021-22. And, he later played for the Houston Rockets before rejoining the Lakers.
