Perry received a satisfactory nod from the business mogul Shaq himself about his decision to lay off his accounting department after the shocking revelation. Shaq said“Tyler Perry fired his whole accounting staff after he found out the IRS owed him $9 million in returns. Good job Tyler. I’d have gotten rid of their a** too.”

The creator of Madea’s character Perry talked about the incident during 2022 Earn Your Leisure Conference. Perry talked about his journey to growing a successful business and his struggles along the way. The actor and filmmaker shared a story about learning from one’s mistakes during the session.

Tyler Perry’s difficult decision

Perry stated that he spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in accounting during three years of auditing by the IRS. The situation kept on frustrating him but he chose to look at the learning side. Eventually, the audit came to an end and it was revealed that the IRS owed Tyler Perry $9 million.

The accounting staff came running to him and told him the news. However, Perry chose to make an executive decision and fired the whole staff for letting him overpay such a large sum of money to the IRS. The 52-year-old joked“How did you miss me paying $9 million!”

Shaquille O’Neal seemed to be impressed by Perry’s brave decision to let his accounting staff go. The hosts of Big Podcast also agreed with Shaq that the actor had made the right choice.
