In a fairy tale ending to the season, the Milwaukee Bucks are NBA champions. Mike Budenholzer’s coaching was on full display as the Bucks won the NBA title for the first time after 1971. While Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the key man back then, Giannis Antetokounmpo won it for the Bucks this time around.

The ‘Greek Freak’ finally got a championship. With the help of Khris Middleton, these two players combined well for eight years, and their hard work paid off by finally landing their first NBA title. Despite winning the championship, Antetokounmpo had only one thing in his mind.

How can I do it again?

Jared Dudley on Giannis’ mentality

The determination was evident. By being labeled as a player who can come close to Nicolas Batum, Giannis took it personally.

The player from Greece opened up his struggles about playing basketball to earn a living but naturally developed a work ethic that made him the best player in the NBA. Similar to Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of work ethic, Giannis has seen it all, and this 26-year-old phenomenon looks to be a force to reckon with.

Former NBA player, Jared Dudley, played for the Bucks during the 2014-15 NBA season. He recollected how Antetokounmpo always came to him for advice and considered him to be a mentor. In addition, he threw the intangibles possessed by him under the shade in a recent interview.

“Unlike Americans, he had no ego. He was always that guy that didn’t care about getting dunked on. I respected him for that. I respected his hunger,” said Dudley.

Quite a bold statement but seems to be true. The sheer mental desire to be the best basketball player is quite evident from Giannis’ determination.

Giannis Antetokounmpo holds a unique record

Dudley remembers how eager the lad from Greece was to learn new things on the court. Never complaining or being disgruntled, he took all the advice from Dudley and showed the league what he can become.

Coming into the league as a lanky teenager, he built muscle, and the physical transformation was there for people to see. Moreover, by polishing his basketball skills, he became a potent threat on the offense as well as his defensive side of the game.

Working on every single aspect of his game, Giannis’ improvement is legendary. While talking about improvement, there are glaring instances regarding his free throws as well.

Often being criticized for the time he takes on his free throws, game six proved to be incredible. Out of the 19 free throws attempted, he made 17 of them.

Labeled as the one weak point in his game, the improvement in those shots was quite clear to see. This compliments Dudley’s statement on how Giannis worked hard, day in day out.

Significantly, he became the only player after Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon to hold the MVP, DPOTY, and the Finals MVP in his already illustrious career. A brilliant company to be with.

The victory for the Bucks proved to be hard work. Hard work and nothing else. By being an example to younger generations, this title victory of the Bucks will be remembered for generations.
