Most hardcore basketball fans know about the feud between the Los Angeles Lakers legends, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. It all started back in the 1996-97 season when both the superstars were introduced to the franchise and continued even after the Big Diesel parted ways with the Lakers in 2004. In that span of eight years, there were several instances where the two didn’t get along well. In light of this, recently, a Lakers legend, who won three NBA championships with the LA side in two different eras, shared an incident when the two powerhouses didn’t get along well.

The three-time champion in question is A.C. Green. Green, who won two championships with the Magic Johnson-led Showtime Lakers in 1987 and 1988, came back to the franchise in 1999 after spending six years in other teams. The Lakers forward, upon his return, won his last championship in 2000 under the leadership of Shaq and Kobe. However, Green also witnessed the incessant animosity between the two All-Time great superstars, some of which he finally shared with the world recently.

In a recent appearance on The Byron Scott Podcast, the now 59-year-old legend unveiled an incident between the Black Mamba and the Big Diesel during his second stint with the Lakers. Scott had asked him how he felt after winning a championship with Bryant and Shaq in the new LA era. In reply, Green said, “Yeah, that’s phenomenal.” Apart from that, he also revealed what often happened between the two NBA powerhouses in the locker-room. The three-time champion said, “So I remember in our team locker room, our two superstars not seeing eye to eye.” The two superstars being Kobe Bryant and Shaq.

Subsequently, he added, “And then, us veteran guys who have already won the championship & we’re in the middle like, ‘You know what we’ve got to do right.'” Thereafter, he added that older players knew how to stop the tiff between the two and they often asked the coaches to leave the room for a minute.

The 59-year-old explained what happened after that. He said, “Some voices got high, some furniture got moved, point got across & the mission got on and then we went on to another winning streak and then finally, they start to see this is how you win…and this is how you start to look out after one another.”

Shaq and Kobe both had hard feelings for each other even after Shaq went to the Miami Heat in 2004. But their feud quickly started to dissipate after 2006. In fact, the duo publicly made peace and even appeared together in interviews subsequently. After the Mamba’s tragic passing in 2020, Shaq gave one of the most moving eulogies ever in the Lakers legend’s memorial celebration.
