As an NBA fan, meeting your favorite stars is a surreal experience. Sometimes fans have to wait in lines just to get a glimpse of their heroes. However, a couple of Charlotte Hornets fans were lucky enough to run into franchise superstar LaMelo Ball back in July 2022. That wasn’t their first encounter with someone from the Hornets franchise though. The same guys had run into Hornets owner, Michael Jordan only a few weeks before meeting Ball. Although, their experience with the 6x NBA champion was very different.

After meeting Ball, the fans told him how they had run into MJ a few weeks ago while looking for the 21-year-old star. Since that video had gone viral at the time, Ball was left stunned when the fans revealed that it was them in the viral clip. “It was yours?” Ball asked in disbelief. Melo seemed as happy as the fans after meeting them and it must have been a surreal experience for his fans.

However, Jordan had a very different reaction to noticing the fans looking for Ball. He politely asked them to put their cameras away as he was gearing up to leave the facility in his luxurious car. The fans still kept calling out his name as one won’t get a chance like this every other day. Eventually, they were escorted out without getting to meet Ball. Nonetheless, their wish came true only a few weeks later.

Is Michael Jordan mean?

While MJ is arguably the greatest player of all time, he’s no stranger to losing his cool. There have been numerous incidents over his career where he has come off as mean. From calling Muggsy Bogues a midget to cheating an old lady in cards, MJ has had his fair share of mean incidents.

However, this never affected his performance on the court. He always had one goal in mind; to win. He didn’t mind hurting someone’s feelings to achieve that goal. He didn’t worry too much about being known as mean since that attitude helped him win 6 NBA championships.

Jordan’s words and actions weren’t always reserved for rivals though. He was probably more hard on his teammates as he wanted everyone around him to have his winning mentality.

In the above-mentioned incident, however, MJ is probably just tired of meeting fans at this stage. He is one of the most recognizable faces in the world and he won’t get a minute of peace without people coming over to click pictures or sign autographs. On the other hand, LaMelo is an up-and-coming star in the NBA. His stock will only continue to rise and he’ll hope he becomes as common a household name as well.
