“Who’s the Greatest Basketball Player of All Time?”: Former Bulls Star Brings Up LeBron James and Michael Jordan to Put Serena Williams With the GOATs of Tennis

NBA superstar LeBron James is one of the best players to ever play the game of basketball. But it is not easy to find the GOAT of the game. Millions of fans around the world consider all-time great Michael Jordan the GOAT of the NBA. However, a lot of fans and players from the current generation consider James the GOAT. This dilemma applies to almost any sport. Be it a team, sport, or individual, it is never easy to compare eras. And that is definitely the case for tennis as well.

Recently, tennis all-time great, Serena Williams announced that she will likely retire from the sport after the US Open. The decision has started a lot of debates as to who is the greatest women’s tennis player of all time. It also sparked a debate between Chris Russo and former Bulls star Jay Williams on ESPN.

Russo said that Martina Navratilova is the GOAT because of the overall competition during her time. Williams then brought up Michael Jordan and LeBron James in the debate to prove his point. He asked Russo who is the GOAT of basketball. And Russo said Michael Jordan is the GOAT of basketball.

Then Williams said, “So if you are debating about LeBron and Jordan, is the quality of competition in today’s game better than what the quality of competition was in those years? So that contradicts your argument.”

However, Russo mentioned that Jordan played against better teams like the 1986 Boston Celtics. And he also maintained that the quality of talent at the time was better. But the former Bulls star debated that the quality of talent doesn’t minimize the talents of Serena Williams. He also said that Williams breaking barriers coming from Compton and her physical dominance adds to the overall greatness. And said that Serena is the GOAT of tennis.
