Will Smith is one of the most renowned actors with one Academy award and four Grammy awards under his name. Despite being a Hollywood veteran, he resigned from the Academy and received a ten years ban after he slapped Chris Rock, the stand-up comedian on the stage of the 94th Academy Awards. Lately, the cultural icon got teary-eyed upon revealing a question his nephew asked regarding the infamous slapping incident.

Will Smith had a chat with the NBA veterans, Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, on the latest episode of ‘ALL THE SMOKE.‘  Smith delved deeper into several topics, along with promoting his upcoming film, ‘Emancipation’.

Will Smith revealed a story to the NBA veterans

During the interview, Matt Barnes speculated that ‘Emancipation’ would be an Oscar contender, followed by asking what Smith’s take was of the infamous Oscar night. Smith candidly replied that it was a horrific night for him. However, Jackson intervened on his behalf and said what Smith did was right. Further stating that he would have acted similarly in the same situation.

Thereafter, Smith revealed an incident that had brought tears to his eyes. He disclosed how his 9-year-old nephew, Dom, asked him the reason behind the slap. However, Smith expressed his inability to make his nephew understand. Moreover, upon revealing this story, Smith got teary-eyed and stated, “I am gonna need a tissue.”

Eventually, the cultural icon found a tissue in his pocket with which he wiped his tears. Seemingly, Smith’s actions spoke of his regret for the role he played in the incident. Further, his words also implied that his nephew, nevertheless, would not have understood the gravity of the situation and the motivation behind the slap. Nor would he have truly understood Smith’s sentiments.

During the presentation of Chris Rock’s Best Documentary Feature at the 94th Academy Awards, Smith surprisingly slapped Rock after walking on stage. Rock had made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s baldness, who shaved her head due to a disease called alopecia areata.
