It’s been ten months since the news of WNBA star Brittney Griner’s arrest broke out. These past months have been grueling not only for Griner, but for her family and friends as well. However, her supporters have not lost hope and they still continue to speak out and make themselves heard.
While Griner serves her nine-year-long sentence, her case has amassed support from all corners of the world. However, a section of people has also spoken out against the government trying to free Griner, citing the reason that the Phoenix Mercury center’s conviction was warranted because she did break the law. In a recent interview, Jasmine Jordan has addressed people with similar beliefs with a strong message.

She claimed that people are being “dismissive and disrespectful” while ignoring the bigger picture. Jordan added, “It’s a bigger picture taking place. A lot of people are ignoring that and they’re focusing on these micro details, the charges, but it’s a political play.” In fact, Jasmine strongly believes that Griner is being used as a political card.
“She is wrongfully being used as a pawn in a bigger scheme that’s being played, and it’s unfortunate to see,” she added.
While being firm with her words, she stated that she would urge everyone to pray for Griner’s safe return. Jasmine also commented that the fight to save Brittney Griner has only just begun.
The Jordan Brand representative’s claim of political play has its basis not only in the harsh sentence of the WNBA star, but also from the prisoner swap discussions that have been making its rounds in the media. Due to her association with the Jordan Brand, Jasmine Jordan regularly works with WNBA players. Therefore, it’s not surprising to see her stand up for one of the most dominant players in the women’s circuit.
An update on Brittney Griner’s case
The Biden Administration presented a proposal for a prisoner swap to Moscow a few months ago. The swap would include the release of Brittney Griner and former US Marine Paul Whelan in exchange for Viktor Bout, who is serving time in the United States.
In a recent update, journalist Nick Schifrin declared that Russia is rooting for a one-for-one swap. However, the administration claimed that they are playing all their cards to ensure the return of both detained Americans, as they actively engage with the Russians.
