Young Charles Barkley Once Thought He Was Superman and Jumped Off a Roof: “He Made Him a Cape Out of a Towel”

Charles Barkley is a legend of the NBA, despite not winning a title. Having played for three teams – the Philadelphia 76ers, the Phoenix Suns, and the Houston Rockets, the man would give NBA fans several iconic moments.

Added to this, ‘Chuck’ would be named as the league MVP in 1993, earn 11 All-Star selections, and would become the fourth player in NBA history to have at least 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, and 4,000 assists. Moreover, he would also be included in the NBA’s 75th-anniversary team.

Clearly, the man gave fans several moments to remember while playing against legends such as Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Hakeem Olajuwon. Speaking of memorable moments, Barkley had some memorable moments as a kid that were on the funny side. One of these incidents was recounted in an interview with Barkley’s mother, Charcey Glenn.

Barkley’s Mother Recounts His Superman Incident

Barkley’s mother recounted in an interview the most embarrassing moment of her son’s life as a child. This was the Superman incident where he jumped off the roof of the projects in an attempt to fly like Superman, only to make a trip to the hospital due to a concussion.

“We were living in the projects, and he made him a cape out of a towel, out of a bathroom towel, and he got on top of the project. I don’t know how he got on top, but he tried to fly like Superman and he was blessed and lucky because he got a concussion,” said Barkley’s mother.

“We carried him to the doctor, and he had a concussion from trying to fly like Superman,” she added.

Despite being diagnosed with a concussion, he recovered and remained healthy, and was able to dominate the league in the years to come. Regardless of that fact, this incident clearly was a funny moment in Barkley’s life.

Barkley was a force in the NBA, and fans loved his game. At 6 foot 4 inches, playing the power forward position is a difficult job even today, especially against taller players. However, Barkley believed in his playing ability in order to push his game forward, regardless of his height.
