“Your Anxiety Is Lying to You”: Brittney Griner’s Wife Cherelle Sends Out an Emotional Message 1 Month After Big Release

It has been a month since WNBA star Brittney Griner was released from the Russian prison and reunited with her wife Cherelle Griner. There is no doubt that the 10 months they have spent apart have been mentally and emotionally draining for both of them. Every second that passed with no update on Griner’s situation was a second too long that Cherelle had to bear. While the couple could exchange letters every few weeks, it just wasn’t the same as getting to communicate regularly. Probably remembering the hardships in mind, Cherelle shared a beautiful message on her Instagram handle.

On December 8, 2022, President Joe Biden announced that the Russian authorities have released Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner and that she was on her way back home. In the early hours of December 9, Griner’s plane landed in San Antonio, finally reuniting her with her wife.

January 8, 2023 marks one month since Brittney Griner’s release, and Cherelle has shared a heartfelt message as a reminder of the faithful day. It is probably an indication that the couple is making a fresh new start on a positive note and not letting negative emotions take over. The inspiring message encouraged people to click more pictures of themselves as a way of self-appreciation.

Long since Brittney Griner’s arrival, the couple has returned to their home in Arizona and is getting settled. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Cherelle said that she and Griner were communicating regularly as they are trying to learn about the journey that both had to go through in the past several months.

Cherelle Griner could not get a good night’s sleep for months

Griner was detained in February 2022 at the international airport in Moscow for carrying a vape containing hash oil. Ever since Griner’s arrest, Cherelle barely got to sleep. While Griner was going through trials, Cherelle was battling her own nightmare. The former teacher was working day and night on Griner’s case and the different time zones only made things worse.

Cherelle said, “I had all my freedom. I had my bed. But when you have your family overseas in a situation like that, time zones play a factor. Every night, that’s the only time I could talk to her attorneys and I could handle things, anything related to Russia. And so I just hadn’t slept.”

Despite all the hardships, both Cherelle and Griner clung to every bit of hope they had and eventually overcame the troubles they faced.
