Reed, 62, also made a huge revelation about the low quality of food that the Russian penal colonies serve. In a recent interview, he said, “To a certain extent, you’re starved just by the food that they give you. We didn’t show any public photos of my son for a month and a half because he looked like a concentration camp victim.”
Mr. Reed shared that the rancid food in the Russian prison resulted in Trevor losing up to 50 pounds of weight. He looked like a concentration camp victim when he was released from Russia. In addition, Reed disclosed that the horrible prison food consisted of potato soup or fish, filled with crunchy bones. The food was so foul that even the stray cats in the barracks would refrain from eating it.
This recent update about the food inside Russian prisons will certainly leave the supporters of Brittney Griner extremely worried for her.

After his verdict, former US Marine, Trevor Reed was sent 350 miles away from Moscow to a penal colony in the remote republic of Mordovia. Reed faced the brutal and inhumane conditions of a penal colony for nine months. Luckily, the US government secured his release with a swap in 2022. He returned to America as a part of a prisoner exchange deal involving Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for conspiring to smuggle over $100 million worth of cocaine into New York.
The State Department has proposed a similar deal for the release of Brittney Griner and US Marine Paul Whelan. They have offered convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout in exchange. However, the Kremlin has not responded in a positive manner yet.
