Last week, 2K announced the new WNBA additions to the NBA 2K21 next-gen edition game. They are continuing this streak of big announcements and have now launched the brand-new The City, which replaces The Neighborhood.

The stagnant Neighborhood was one of the biggest complaints players had. For years, 2K barely changed anything. But now with this new update, they have hit it out of ‘The Park.’ The City is much bigger than the Neighborhood and is filled with skyscrapers and plazas.

Main features of The City

All new MyPlayers will start their journey at Rookieville. After earning their stripes by battling it out against other rookies, they will then be able to access the other parts of the City. As the name says, the all-new Event Center will be the venue for all events. Located at the heart of the City, the futuristic building has its walls and courts lined with LED screens.

Garage Hoops is a simple yet cool addition. Players can challenge each other on courts across the city, playing 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and HORSE as well. In addition, players can earn through VC multipliers on their first five games played there each day.

The Gatorade Training Facility has also got a big revamp. The two-floor gym now has the training equipment on the first floor and on the top floor, players can now go up against their friends on Rental Courts.

More Kobe Bryant tributes in NBA 2K21

Across the city, players can find Special Courts to engage in 4v4 and 5v5 battles. One out of the two courts is a tribute to Kobe Bryant. The court is a snakeskin design dedicated to the Mamba and on the wall is a huge mural of Kobe from the 2010 title celebrations.

Another swanky addition is the Pink Diamond Plaza, which is the home of MyTEAM Triple Threat Online. While the previous stores are going to return, the City boasts of new apparel stores of individual brands like Nike, Jordan Brand, Adidas, and Converse.

Return of Affiliation!

This returning feature has to be the biggest addition. It has been highly requested by players, and 2K have finally paid heed to it. Every affiliation has its own space in the city, called Boroughs. When a player makes it out of Rookieville, they will be assigned one of the four affiliation teams. There is an option to transfer, but it will cost the player a reset of their rep level.

Each Affiliation now has its own Mayor. The initial Mayors will be four influencers but later, there’ll be elections every six weeks. So what do the Mayors get to do? They will be in charge of selecting uniforms for games against rival affiliations, making a custom playlist for their own borough, designing courts, and finally designing their murals too.

As part of their affiliation, players can engage in Rival Day Conquests. This is where players invade other boroughs and take over their rivals’ courts. Gaining control of courts will give their affiliation points, and by the end of the day, teams will be ranked according to these points. This ranking/seeding will then be used for Rival Day Championships.

Rival Day Championships is the ultimate battle between the affiliations. Held in the Event Center, affiliations will take on each other to claim the crown of the City.
