There are few on-court moments as exciting as a game-winner. Even for players it seems! A former NBA champion recently spoke about the build-up to an unreal game-winner. In a viral clip posted on Twitter, the 43-year-old reminisced about the jaw-dropping shot-making ability of his teammate, LeBron James. James’ teammate admitted that he literally never saw a player draw up his own play that actually works. The King‘s high IQ display astonished the 7-foot center. 

The NBA has given us moments of sheer brilliance and athleticism when it comes to the closing minutes of a game. One such moment was discussed in a segment by a former player for the Cleveland Cavaliers

In 2015, the Cavs faced up against the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Before Game-4, the Bulls were leading the charge against LeBron’s former side, up 2-1 in the series. Brendan Haywood, who was a member of the Cleveland side, recently recounted his version of the events. 

Gilbert Arenas interviewed the 2011 NBA Champion and the two spoke about the King’s killer instinct during that playoff series.

Down the stretch, LeBron James was having trouble scoring points for his team. He even turned the ball over a couple of times.

Cleveland called a timeout in the final seconds of the game. Remembering this pressure-filled moment, Haywood said, “David Blatt draws up a play and says, JR you get here and get the shot. I’ve never seen this he said, absolutely not, grabs the clipboard, erases the play, and starts to formulate his own play.”

LeBron’s former teammate then confessed how he’s never seen anyone plan out their own game-winner.

James’ ability to rise to the occasion and deliver under pressure is a statement of his greatness. It’s this type of quality that inspired his teammates, including Brendan Haywood, to push themselves to new heights.

As the clock ticked down in overtime, the game was evenly poised. With just seconds remaining, the Cavaliers had the ball in their hands, trailing by one point. It was at this precise moment that LeBron James showcased his extraordinary skills, taking on the strong defender, Jimmy Butler.

With Brendan Haywood watching intently from the sideline, LeBron made his move. Dribbling at the top of the key, he executed a masterful step-back move, creating just enough space to launch his shot.

The stadium held its collective breath as the ball soared through the air, heading straight for the hoop. After an instant that seemed to last an eternity, the ball found its mark. Swish!

The Cavaliers’ bench exploded with joy. LeBron’s game-winner had sealed the victory for the Cavaliers, leaving the Bulls and the entire basketball world in awe of his brilliance.
