On the “Dan Patrick Show”, the host asks Charles Barkley, “I know you’re going to the Auburn game. How close do you think you got to convincing Auburn to bring Deion Sanders to be your coach?”. Charles Barkley replies, “That’s a great question. I made it publicly and privately known that I wanted Deion. That’s all I could do. I really wanted Deion at Auburn.”.

He further adds, “Because I think wherever he goes, he will be successful. He’s that great a coach and a person. But you know what, I have to be careful with that, Dan. We hired Hugh Freeze, and I’m all in of Coach Freeze but I really wanted Deion at Auburn. Like I said, we got Coach Freeze and I’ve got to support him a hundred percent.”.

The host then asks Barkley, “How do you sum up what has happened in Colorado with Deion? How would you describe it?”.

Charles Barkley replies, “It’s what I know that Deion was going to do. He has the ‘it’ factor. First of all, he’s a really great person.”. He further explains, “He’s a great coach and he’s got a great staff. He reminds me a lot of Nick Sabin. And I think Nick Sabin is the greatest coach ever.”.

But what did Deion Sanders a.k.a Coach Prime do to deserve such high praise from the NBA Hall of Famer?

How Coach Prime brought $280,000,000 to Colorado

Last year, the athletic director of University of Colorado Rick George publicly revealed that the Colorado administration had not paid Deion Sanders the stipulated $29.5 million to coach the Colorado Buffaloes. Rick George mentioned to the reporters on December 4th 2022, “We don’t have the money yet, but I know we’ll have it.”.

With the college football season having started a month ago, the Colorado Buffaloes Front Office did not have to struggle to get the money. How? Because Deion Sanders a.k.a Coach Prime drew the attention of football fans from all over the country.

Colorado is set to pay Coach Prime a cumulative of $29.5 million in 5 years. The Colorado Buffaloes have to pay him $5.5 million just this year. However, the Colorado Buffaloes received an estimate of $280,000,000 as a return value for their $29.5 million investment on Coach Prime.

The $280 million is a conservative number calculated from the increases in football tickets from last year ($20 million). Coach Prime’s influence also led to an increase in donations ($8 million), an overall increase in other categories, and an incredible increase in media exposure ($249 million) which came from hiring the popular Pro Football Hall of Famer.

Deion Sanders, now known as Coach Prime, was one of the toughest and the most talented ‘Cornerbacks’ and ‘Wide Receivers’ of all time. He was also one of only two professional athletes to have played in two different sports at the highest professional level. He played 641 professional baseball games in the MLB and is a certified NFL legend.
