Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade share a bond beyond the court and the so-called “Banana Boat” crew has always been about more than just a viral nickname. “We grew over the years. I know people joke about the banana boat, but we’re more than a banana boat. This is a true friendship,” Melo once said. And like any true friends, they know how to take jabs at each other without crossing the line. So, when the Miami Heat honored Wade with a statue, Melo couldn’t resist taking a playful shot.

While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Melo said, “I think he was caught up on the process. He loved the process of it and just forgot the outcome.” But Wade didn’t just sit back and laugh it off—he made sure to get his revenge. During an AT&T commercial featuring both of them, along with Kiyan Anthony and Syracuse legend Jim Boeheim, Wade flipped the script. But while the Hall of Famer got his moment, Kiyan walked away with some “sick” feelings.

So, what exactly went down? According to Melo, Kiyan wasn’t too happy with how things turned out. “He (Kiyan) was sick that they cut all his parts. Concept was different at first,” he revealed on his podcast. Originally, the commercial was supposed to be a tribute to both families.

“The concept was like you had like the Ball family and then you had like the Anthony family. We all was there at like the unveiling of the statue, and then when you pull a statue wall, it’s the Melo. Yeah, then I’m over there like nah what like ahhh.”

But that vision never made it past the planning stage. “That was the first one but the family couldn’t something happen. They couldn’t do it. And then they do D-Wade in there,” Melo explained.

Even though he preferred the original idea, Melo admitted the final cut wasn’t bad. “I’m saying it was it was dope.”

However because of the change, D-Wade not only secured his place in the spotlight but also got his revenge on Melo.

Dwyane Wade got both spotlight and revenge in Carmelo Anthony’s ad

Last month, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade teamed up for AT&T’s latest commercial, but Melo probably wishes he had read the script twice. The ad kicks off with the Knicks legend unveiling his statue, nervously praying, “Please be good. Please be good.” But his worst fears came true.

Instead of an eight-foot masterpiece like Wade’s, Melo’s statue turned out to be comically small—more of a souvenir than a tribute. And Wade wasted no time rubbing it in.

With a smirk, he delivered a backhanded compliment: “It’s a Mini Melo… mini Melo.” The three-time NBA champ kept the act going, clapping beside his friend and calling it a “masterpiece.” But if you thought the trolling stopped there, think again.

Wade took it to Instagram, reposting the scene with the caption, “It’s A Masterpiece 👏🏿👏🏿.” If Melo thought his playful jab at Wade’s real-life statue would go unnoticed, he clearly underestimated The Flash.

So, in a way, the entire AT&T ad was Wade’s perfect revenge.
