The savior for CNN is here. However, before the news came out, no one could have predicted the 2 people who would make it happen. Instead, Gayle King and Charles Barkley have taken over the talk show space in a major way. In a few short weeks, they have become must-watch TV due to their easy charisma and effortless chemistry. But, despite the show’s instant success, the two still differ in a lot of major areas. Even the show’s future.

During The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the two were engaging in the pop quiz section of their interview. Answering some rapid-fire questions, one saw them go on separate paths. “Who is your dream guest on “King Charles”?”

For the NBA Hall of Famer, the answer was simple. “I’m going to go with [Barrack] ObamaI think he’s one of the most amazing men…He’s thoughtful, his integrity is, no one’s ever going to question it.” But Gayle has a different route to take.

She would go more pop culture with arguably the biggest couple in terms of star power – Jay-Z and Beyonce. Her reasoning? “Never been done. Have you ever seen an interview of [the two]?” Instead, she would direct her attention to her co-host.

Wouldn’t you like Jay-Z and Beyonce together?” Even the Chuckster had to agree with the rather unconventional route. “They’d be great.” As a backup, King had another name in mind. “Stephen Colbert – how about that…Stephen, you can come on anytime. ”

While she was able to swing the pendulum on potential retirement plans for the Round Mound of Rebound, can she do it for special guests too? Or is Charles winning the round this time around? Speaking of that nickname, however, the longtime TNT host has a major problem with it.

During his time in the NBA, the 6’6 power forward became one of the best to ever play. Through stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Phoenix Suns, he would solidify his place in NBA history, including an MVP and a trip to the NBA Finals.

However, due to his build and stature, he would carry the unfortunate Round Mound nickname. Even today, his basketball co-host Shaquille O’Neal leaves no stone unturned to tease Chuck about his weight. But he doesn’t think he’s Round Mound anymore.

One take at a time

My earliest memories of a connection to basketball was through its popularity in my school. Eventually, that gave way to a genuine passion for the sport and the rest, is history. Whether it be gameplay, the tactics, the narratives, or the sheer art on display, the game speaks to me in a way few other things can.
