Athletes taking over different avenues after their careers is becoming increasingly common. If you’re diverse like Shaquille O’Neal, a path into the music or entertainment world could also be a viable option. However, one name that has gone into each of these forays is Dwyane Wade. Whether it be as a co-owner of the Utah Jazz, or his dive into game show hosting, The Flash excels at every level. But one of the more unique pathways for Wade has been into the mainstream media as a producer.

By the looks of it, his excursion is paying huge dividends. One of his biggest investments was a unique documentary. The Barber of Little Rock is a docuseries with a nuanced vision to highlight a huge problem through a new lens.

And it is being taken over by the New Yorker. In a press release and Instagram post, the 59th and Prairie studio made the takeover public. “59th and Prairie Entertainment is excited to announce The Barber of Little Rock has been acquired by the New Yorker!”

Moreover, the company with $279 million revenue also gave an insight into what the series entails. “The Barber of Little Rock explores America’s racial wealth gap through the story of Arlo Washington, a barber in Little Rock, Arkansas, whose barber college has created professional opportunities for more than 1500 licensed barbers. We can’t wait for everyone to see Arlo’s story.”

With the Miami Heat legend donning a producer’s hat, the success of the documentary could come to define athlete involvement in this relatively unexplored genre.
