“It was kind of a bucket list achievement for my dad. I think it was something my dad had always dreamed of and asked me about, and so it was really special to be able to be here today to share this moment with my parents and to have them be here with me,” the Scandal actress told People magazine.

Gabrielle Union and Kerry Washington were up for the same role

After making her debut with Our Song, Washington has continued to serve her best with versatile roles. She was also nominated for two Golden Globe Awards. It was the same role Union had auditioned for. Her comments, “I was told I didn’t get the part because, ‘She’s just prettier than you,'” were believed to be directed towards this instance. However, the connection true or not, Union’s support for the Primetime Emmy Award-winning actress makes it evident that there’s no clash.

Speaking of her friend and colleague, Rhimes said, “She does it all with this determination and this grace and she’s joyful about it. She is a star. She’s a bright star who lights up our world … Kerry doesn’t just shine for herself, she shares her light with anyone who needs it.”
