Allen Iverson was one of the most ‘lethal’ guards that the NBA had ever seen. Standing at 6 feet, he was much smaller than most NBA players. However, despite playing in a very physically grueling era of the NBA, Allen Iverson always managed to score or make a play.

In a recent podcast interview, an Ex-Clippers Star talks about one of Allen Iverson’s most impressive qualities as a player.

Lou Williams responds as he praises the Hall of Famer, “Man…he was just tough as hell bro. Tough as hell. Never made any excuses for his size. And I think that was one of the things I took with me.”.

The ex-Clippers star goes on to say, “He played through injuries. He played big. If you go watch any of his games, he played big. He attacked the rim and didn’t shy away from any contact. He played like he was 6’9 and I took that with me throughout my career.”.

 

When Lou Williams got drafted into the Philadelphia 76ers in 2005 (directly from high school), Allen Iverson who was the 76ers star was like a big brother to him. Allen Iverson took Lou Williams under his wing immediately and the two remain close friends to this day.

When ex-Clippers star failed to fulfill AI’s wish

After Allen Iverson retired from the NBA, he publicly stated his love for Lou Williams and how he wanted to see him (Lou) succeed. He once said in an “All the Smoke” podcast episode, “I just want Lou to win. I just want him to win a title.”

Back when he said that, Lou Williams and the Clippers were in the NBA Playoffs. Allen Iverson wasn’t a Clippers fan but he just loves Lou Williams that much. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Clippers lost in the playoffs.

Lou Williams, just like NBA legend Allen Iverson, did not win any NBA championships in his career. However, he won the ‘Sixth Man of the Year’ award three times (highest in NBA) during his career. After 11 years in the league, Lou Williams announced his retirement from the NBA in June of 2023.
