Every basketball fan has had to suffer a true shocker this year. While not sending in the most elite group, Team USA still had high hopes for the FIBA World Cup. On the back of the collective talent and NBA players 1-15, the team expected results at the World Cup. However, their embarrassing end, with no medals to show for, has caused widespread pandemonium. Whether it be firing head coach Steve Kerr or recruiting a LeBron James-led Super team, every possibility is open. But, within the widespread panic, Charles Barkley has a beautiful insight into Team USA’s “embarrassment“.

Speaking from the heart, the Philadelphia 76ers legend has more positives to focus on from the nation’s disappointing loss.

According to Chuck, “It’s great for basketball.” While the country focuses on its disappointment, the Phoenix Suns legend is focusing on basketball and its popularity as a whole. While LeBron is “recruiting” names like Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker, Barkley has a different idea.

I’m kind of in the minority. I don’t want to send in those guys. I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world if we lose…Because if we win, like okay yeah we know we’re the best basketball-playing country in the world. But, can you imagine…One of these little crappy countries wins, how popular basketball would be over there?”

Even though some 30 years ago, Chuckster likened it to the state of basketball in the ’90s. “That’s how this whole dream team started…Tony Parker talked about it…Dirk Nowitzki talks about that. So, it’s only going to make basketball more popular around the world.”

On the other hand, Chuck’s friend and co-host, Shaquille O’Neal, is all aboard the idea. After Team USA’s loss in the World Cup, speculation has run rampant about who will represent the country at the Olympics next year.

 Dream Team coming back?

Soon after Team USA’s loss, the biggest reason was attributed to the lack of superstar talents on the side. However, it seems like that won’t be an issue for the team come 2024. Firstly, LeBron made it public with a clear comment about his intentions for the national side. Then, the rumors started swirling in.

Names like Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Anthony Davis all showed interest in the potential team. Further, young superstars like De’Aaron Fox and Devin Booker are all aboard the idea as well. Even though Chuck might not be a fan of the idea, it seems like the second coming of the Dream Team is upon us.
