As the announcement for a trailer from Rockstar Games finally became official, the message was as simple as it was clear. “Tuesday, 6th December. 1st Trailer. 9 AM ET.” Every gaming fan around the world had to feel the excitement. But the long wait had even brought a sense of dread and memes. The former Los Angeles Lakers star perfectly encapsulated the feeling with his reply. “Daaamn it’s going down! Please don’t say release date 2030 lol.”

And why wouldn’t the anticipation be at an all-time high? Since its release, GTA V’s popularity has never seen a dip. Despite being a staple of the industry for 7 years, the game saw its highest-selling year in 2020. Overall, it has become one of the most controversial games of all time.

However, along with that controversy has come unrivaled success. During its lifespan, the game has become the single most profitable entertainment product in history. As a result, the optics for the next entry in the series are at an all-time high.

Are Rockstar’s projections in line with Isaiah Thomas’ hype?

The previous GTA made an estimated $800 million on its opening day alone. Through its tenure, its total accumulation would amount to $8 billion. Unsurprisingly, the developers expect a similar output this time as well.

According to various reports, the team is expecting a revenue output worth $8 billion for the fiscal year 2024. Without any major title incoming, such a number would be hard to achieve. But, with the insane popularity along with surging prices for games, the company could rope in the expected amount.
