Certain superstars have left an indelible mark on basketball. One of the major influences during the NBA’s early years was the late, great Wilt Chamberlain. The icon’s unbelievable feats still defy logic to this day and his influence eventually rubbed off on great big men like Kevin Garnett. The Boston Celtics legend recently revealed his solid motivation behind the 4-year long investment in the new Wilt Chamberlain documentary series.

The 15x NBA All-Star reminisced about the impact of Chamberlain during a conversation with Ben Golliver. KG claimed that his fondness for the game grew even stronger around the passion of his grandfathers and uncles. The Hall of Famer mentioned how his family shaped him to look up to people who made a difference in the community.

A heartfelt confession by Kevin Garnett 

The former NBA champion revealed how the stepping stones are laid to fall in love with this sport. KG said, “The first thing you learn about the game are the pioneers of it. Wilt Chamberlain is one of them, Jerry West is another, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and so on.” He later opened up to Ben about his childhood heroes.

Garnett later explained how his family played a significant role. He mentioned, “My uncles and grandfather, the first things they used to tell me would be the skyhook and Wilt’s 100 points and how the young boys would never break that. The yesteryear just talking s**t you know.” He further stated, “The first expression of Wilt came from being a childhood fan and from my uncles and other older people around me.”

On being asked by Ben if Garnett shared the game style and finesse of Wilt, KG declined in an instant, showcasing the amount of respect he has for the veteran. “I’m average at best,” he mentioned as his closing remarks.
