The current hoard of NBA superstars does not get enough appreciation. For instance, Giannis Antetokounmpo became the third player in NBA history to win MVP and DPOY simultaneously. However, the conversation was instead on “the bag” he did possess rather than his effectiveness. To put an end to that mentality, Kevin Garnett made a startling comparison. While Stephen Curry broke the mold for what small guards could do, the path was set by Isiah Thomas.

To appreciate one, Garnett had to use the example of the other. Due to the constant 24/7 news cycle, it is hard for any accomplishment to have staying power. However, that problem is now bordering on extreme. As a result, even all-time great performances don’t hold the same gravitas.

Do modern-day players not receive adequate love? Kevin Garnett thinks so

A major reason for that is the comparison to the era gone by. Due to nostalgia, that era gets more respect. Moreover, players of today need to emulate their style more remains a constant critique. However, KG has a different mindset.

We’re in 2024, things are supposed to look different. I don’t want to watch Steph Curry doing Isiah Thomas moves. I want to watch Stephen Curry do Stephen Curry things in 2024-2025…We’re missing out on greatness because we’re so hung up on those six championships.”

Further, Garnett was set on winning Stephen A. Smith over. The next example he would use was of Michael Jordan himself. “You think Michael Jordan was talking about Bill Russell when he was chasing six? No, he was talking about what Chicago and Jordan and f**k Olajuwon…He was doing Mike…We gotta embrace where we at.”?

But, for every Curry example that KG has, Smith has a rebuttal.

For every Stephen Curry, there is an Anthony Davis

While on his Curry rant, the Big Ticket did make clear that he did not want to absolve today’s stars of any shortcomings. Instead, the focus should be on their game and its own merits. “We got to start giving flowers out more like we got to start…We can critique your game look.”?

Unfortunately, to explain his point, the former MVP gave Stephen A. ammunition for a comeback. “I’m looking for Anthony Davis – you got to give me another gear.”?But, the mention of the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is all that Smith needed.

Due to his long history of critiquing?the Brow?and his fluctuating performances, Stephen A. was in full agreement with KG’s assessment, “That’s what I’m saying, glad you went there.”?Smith further went on to explain why he is critical of AD, adding “When he’s healthy, he’s a top 7 player on the fu****g planet earth. This brother is that elite.” However, he questioned how someone like AD could be okay with being led by a 39-year-old (LeBron James).
