You can’t measure a champion’s heart. Things like leadership, effort, and hustle don’t necessarily show up in the numbers. However, winners know just how important they are to ultimately find success. That is why Kevin Garnett, who toiled away in Minnesota for ages before finally winning a Championship with the Boston Celtics understands the role those intangibles play. An appreciation for them led the former MVP to give credence to one of the best to ever do it.

However, Dennis Rodman wasn’t one for the numbers. Even though a bona fide Hall of Famer, the Worm‘s impact was way more than what was visible in the box score. Instead, his effort and hustle truly made him one of a kind. There is an old quote that says, “If you want to know how good Dennis Rodman is, just know that this man had Michael Jordan running around Vegas looking for him.”  Because even the greatest basketball player of all time knew the impact that Rodman had on a team.

On his Instagram story, Garnett made his opinion of the 5x NBA Champion clear. Serenading him with comments like, “RIGHT…Shout to the worm!”,  “Cmon man”, and calling him the GOAT with an emoji in place, KG was all praise for Dennis the Menace.

The graphic in question, however, is truly mind-boggling. Over a 2-game stretch during his time with the San Antonio Spurs, The Worm would notch 49 rebounds without recording a single basket, that included a 28-rebound game in 45 minutes.

The post was  perfect encapsulation of Rodman’s impact and how it was far more than just buckets. But, for the 5x NBA champion, there was a science to his madness.

Dennis Rodman explains his methodology behind rebounds

In the final slide of the post, the Detroit Pistons legend would explain his training for excelling as a rebounder. For each of the players he was facing, he would study their mentality and where the ball would drop after shots. As a result, the point of impact with the rim told the 7x rebounding champ where to gather boards.

Even though he was never a prolific scorer, it was this attention to detail along with unmatched hustle and effort that made him who he was. A famous clip of Rodman going against the Round Mound of Rebound Charles Barkley shows the two jockeying for a rebound.
