As a result of these changing deals, Stephen A. Smith, perhaps the most recognizable name among sports analysts today, has a new partner. That Shannon Sharpe went out on contentious terms against Stephen A’s former partner further adds to the mystery.

Due to so many loose threads, the debut episode of First Take’s brand-new pairing did some remarkable numbers. Therefore, ol’ Stephen A had to send out a word of congratulations to his newest debate partner. Regardless of what the future holds, the present certainly looks bright for TV’s new favorite couple.

While anticipation was high for the pairing, their first dance did not disappoint. Whether it was Deion Sanders‘ epic comeback victory or the upcoming NFL season, the duo was all guns blazing from the get-go. While the long-awaited LeBron JamesMichael Jordan debate still remains some time away, the two gave a teaser of things to come.

Although the two got into on Shannon’s podcast a week before, an official debate on First Take is yet to come up. But, the highly-anticipated event did deliver spectacular numbers. So much so that Stephen had to tweet, “Just wanted to take a moment to give some love to my man…Because First Take did 727K.”

However, the legendary spokesperson was ready for some ribbing as well. Continuing, “It’s our 2nd-highest-rated show of the year, so ya still got some climbing to do, my brother! Just kidding. Welcome aboard bro! Let’s keep bringing it.” 

Perhaps the most hilarious moment of the show came when Sharpe accidentally called Stephen A. Skip. While Bayless was his partner for 7 years on Undisputed, the two had a falling out leading to the two going their separate ways. Just last week, Undisputed returned last week with a special new lineup as well.

Even though the pair ended on less than ideal terms, Shannon did iterate that their relationship wasn’t broken in the slightest, during his new debate partner’s appearance on his podcast. With the two teammates now firmly locked in battle through TV ratings, let’s see which show prevails.
