Magic Johnson’s wife Cookie Johnson turned 65 today. The NBA veteran shared a heartfelt note with his social media followers to mark her birthday. Magic said that he is lucky and feels eternally blessed to have this life that he gets to share with her. He also used a Proverb from the bible to emphasize his blessing.

The NBA veteran wrote, “Happy Birthday to my forever love, my favor with God, and my wife, Cookie Johnson!” The two have been married since 1991 and Cookie has stood by him throughout all the turbulence and turmoil in Magic’s life.

He further wrote, “Proverbs 31:10 tells us a good wife is the most precious treasure a man could have, and I have the greatest!” He continued, “You’re a beautiful reflection of God’s love and light, and I am grateful that I get to live this life with you by my side. I treasure every year I get to celebrate your birthday and every moment I get to spend with you. I’m so excited to see all God blesses you with in this next year. You deserve it all! Happy Birthday, Baby!”

Magic Johnson’s wife once struggled with a daunting choice for him

Cookie mentioned this story in the book, Believing in Magic: My Story of Love, Overcoming Adversity, and Keeping the Faith. She recalled the time when she was stuck between two choices, whether she should continue with her job or go and support Magic in the 1991 championship run. Cookie eventually chose to go with Magic and then had to deliver the message to her employer. Despite being torn between the situation, she decided to call up her office.

She said, “I’m so sorry for doing this to you. I love you guys and you’ve been so good to me. I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t absolutely have to. You know how up and down our relationship is.” Although this was very difficult for her, she went through with it and was fired from her job. However, everything worked out very well for her because that decision proved to be a turning point in their relationship. “When I stepped off that plane, Earvin was standing with his parents, waiting for me with open arms”, she wrote.
