Remember the 2009 NBA Draft? It produced some elite point guards! Players like Ty Lawson, Jrue Holiday, Jeff Teague, and Brandon Jennings all made their mark in the league. Holiday became an All-Star and NBA champion with the Bucks and the Celtics in 2021 and 2024, respectively. Meanwhile, Teague had his moments in the league, playing an important role in Atlanta’s success. Lawson, despite off-court struggles, was a dynamic floor general in the Nuggets, whereas Jennings had flashy moments but lacked long-term consistency. But as all went a different way, there sparked a competition. 

It had to be Jennings talking. He believed he was better than all of them. “Jrue Holiday has never been better than me,” he stated confidently. But the stats? He acknowledged that others had better careers but insisted, “They’re not better than me.” He frequently pointed to his 55-point rookie performance, saying, “I had 55 as a rookie—not even starting.” While he was goaded into making such claims, Jennings didn’t hold back as he didn’t see himself in a position any lesser than the rest!

What was the aftermath of such claims? Understandably, this did not go well with the rest. And how can it be? The rebuttals started coming in. J Teague shared his thoughts, but Ty Lawson did not hold back at all and sunk his teeth in quickly. Lawson wasn’t having it. In a video that just surfaced on Instagram, he stated, “Bruh, you was cool… but you wasn’t nicer than me in the NBA.” He reminded Jennings that while he had that one 55-point game, it never happened again. Lawson also recalled a time when his team “smacked” Jennings’ squad, making it clear he disagreed with the claim. A friendly debate, or is it turning worse? But who sparked it?

The whole debate was sparked by Nate Robinson, who later admitted, “😂😂😂Chill bro I didn’t mean to start any 💩 ok maybe I did but I didn’t mean for it to turn up this quickly lol.” When someone called him out for stirring the pot, he doubled down, writing, “lol bro we love hoop tea, cuz I got lots of tea for n***** but I be chillin”. What started as a casual debate turned into a full-on battle, proving NBA players never stop competing—even off the court.

Jeff Teague rebuttal, recalls ‘hating’ Jennings

Was Brandon Jennings better than Jeff Teague, Jrue Holiday, and Ty Lawson? Jeff Teague isn’t afraid to speak his mind, no matter the consequences, and even this time, he had plenty to say. On the Club 520 Podcast, Teague responded to Jennings’ claims with a mix of respect and blunt honesty. Or too brutal, to say the least.

“I f*** with Brandon,” Teague admitted. “You were more known than us… but everything you could do in high school, I could do.” He acknowledged Jennings’ reputation but questioned his NBA impact. Now, something is interesting too. Back when he was in the league, he even used to “hate” Brandon because of it. Reason?

“Bro, you had way more opportunity. You shot like 38 percent.” According to Teague, Jennings had the green light, but his efficiency was another story. Well, at least till he had a realization that “he just shoot more than me”! In his words, “I ain’t hating. But it wasn’t like… Most of the average was 17. I swear to you, most of the average was 17.”

Teague also pointed out that Jennings never played with true stars. “You ain’t never played with no killers… You didn’t have to pass the ball to Joe Johnson and f****** Jamal Crawford.” So, playing with elite teammates changes everything? Might be. But he had all the respect for Jrue Holiday. “Drew Holiday? Nah. Drew Holiday should definitely have a Defensive Player of the Year.” While Teague stated that if it were the case of a comparison between him and Jennings, it would have been at least understandable, but to him, a comparison with Holiday is just out of the question.

It will be interesting to see what Jennings has to say about Lawson’s and Teagues’ claims. Will he be able to justify his claims? Well, it will be a tall order, to say the least.
