However, apart from a singular picture of the two on the court together, no word of that encounter exists. Until now, apparently. While a chance to meet, and compete, with your idol would be the greatest opportunity for most, it is also a source of embarrassment for LBJ.

As a picture of the two GOAT candidates and Antoine Walker made its way online, King James would reveal the reason for his shame. His rather peculiar hairstyle would cause the 4x NBA champion to wonder aloud on his Instagram story.

The picture, posted by a page by the apropos named rare_sports, would explain the when and the how of the picture. “Michael Jordan, Antoine Walker & LeBron James. This pic was most likely taken in Chicago when LeBron was in high school coming out to play against NBA pros. Word is MJ and LeBron were on the same team and never lost.” 

While the hype was present beforehand, no one could predict how that encounter would come to define the NBA for years to come.

By the time LeBron made his way to the league, MJ was already universally regarded as the greatest of all time. But, despite coming in from high school, James was the Chosen One. The one to carry on the basketball legacy after the Chicago Bulls legend.

However, even with those lofty expectations, The Kid From Akron was able to achieve or exceed each of them. Today, the debate rings true between just two men. Regardless of how much others try to push their favorite players into the narrative, the discussion has almost become singular.

Until a cataclysmic event shifts the favor on the side of the Los Angeles Lakers superstar, it remains likely that the debates will continue to rage on. When a young high school baller walked into a gym to team with a 6x NBA Champion, who knew?
