The college football playoffs have come and gone. And what a genuinely insane year the country had on its hands. Whether it was the rise of Deion Sanders, the FSU snub, or a generational Heisman race, the season had a bit to offer for everyone. However, the biggest talking point at the end of the year was the aforementioned FSU scenario. Their initial snub led to country-wide outrage. But, in hindsight, the move was probably the right one. Or so Charles Barkley believes.

Speaking on the Steam Room, the Philadelphia 76ers legend would make his opinions on the matter public. “First of all, let me say something, man y’all got to do something about these s***ty Bowl Games…They gotta kill some Bowls. They can’t be having all these bowls, Ernie. Because the Bowl system is broken. It’s flat-out broken.”
He would even cite examples of people asking him for a change. “Kirby Smart, who I really like and have a lot of respect for, he said, ‘y’all gotta fix this. Y’all gotta fix this. Florida State shows up without 20 of its best players cuz they opted out,” Barkley ranted.

“Florida State got shafted. They did. Plain and simple. They should have been in the playoffs, no disrespect to other teams. They should not have been penalized [for the injury to the quarterback]. Because they still won three games without him…We got too many Bowls. We got way too many BS. 6-6 should not get you in the Bowl. And if you’re going to have the playoffs, we have got to shorten the season.”

His primary concern with an extended playoff run is the wear and tear on the athlete’s bodies. However, his comments about Florida State in particular stand in stark contrast to PrimeTime’s words from a couple of weeks ago.

While he was wholly complimentary to the team and their culture, “I love their coach. I love what they’ve built. I love what they’ve established. Just to think about a team undefeated and not go to the playoffs. That is crazy,” Deion also understands the business aspect of the decision-making process.

Speaking to Stephen A. Smith, Sanders would reveal his logic behind leaving FSU out. “People don’t think business-wise…You’re not leaving Alabama out. I don’t know how you left Georgia out. Business wise you can’t do that. You can’t do that. Did they [FSU] deserve it? Yes, they did. But, coach Norvell coached his butt off and we can’t take nothing away from him.”
The 3x Super Bowl Champion has always been extremely complimentary of the staff at FSU, especially coach Norvell. But, with him making his own case for a spot in the playoffs off of popularity alone, is Chuck in the right? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
