During his short time in the league, Jalen Hurts is already building a legacy unlike any other. He has quickly become one of the best spokespersons and locker-room leaders in the game today. His quotes could build a library of their own, similar to one Michael Jeffrey Jordan. But it isn’t just off the court that the Alabama product tries to be like Mike.

On the gridiron, the quarterback is slowly starting to make his case as being up there in terms of clutchness with the best of them. It was Hurts’ leadership, and ability to remain cool, calm, and collected under pressure, that led the Philadelphia Eagles to a 10-1 start. During that stretch, a host of impressive wins led to that 10-win tally. Perhaps none, as impressive as his showing against defending champions Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. In a rematch from their Super Bowl encounter from the previous season, the game was among the most anticipated for the calendar year. And rightfully so.

A back-and-forth encounter had both teams hanging in there in search of victory. Ultimately, though, it was Jalen’s composure at the end of games that led his team to a remarkable victory. All the while, sporting a Michael Jordan cleat on his feet, Jalen was painting his master class.

However, the team has hit a rough patch since. Over the last two weeks, demoralizing embarrassments against Conference opponents – the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys have left the team reeling. Now, with another Conference battle against the Seattle Seahawks looming, news of Jalen Hurts being down with a sickness is making the rounds.

Could the runner-up for MVP from the previous year have to recreate another iconic MJ moment?

While his career isn’t shy of iconic, all-time stunning moments, one of the most remarkable feats of his time as a member of the Chicago Bulls was the Flu Game. During an intense playoff series, Michael was able to suit up despite being under the flu. Even though his performance wasn’t his usual outlandish self, it was still enough to lead his team to victory.

As a result, the game became instantly iconic. As he makes his way onto the field in Jordan wear, Hurts has made the mission statement clear. Despite facing severe illness, he isn’t ready to quit on his team.

My earliest memories of a connection to basketball was through its popularity in my school. Eventually, that gave way to a genuine passion for the sport and the rest, is history. Whether it be gameplay, the tactics, the narratives, or the sheer art on display, the game speaks to me in a way few other things can.
