Dwyane Wade‘s transition to a post-NBA life has been relatively smooth. While there are critics and haters out there, for the most part, the Miami Heat legend is enjoying life. Whether as a guest commentator, a TV show host, or as owner of the Utah Jazz, Dwyane’s post-basketball career has been an absolute success. However, the most challenging aspect is, of course, maintaining relationships.

With a large family and a wife, it hasn’t always been easy for Wade. However, what has helped is his persistence to try to get better – and an incredibly supportive partner with a brilliant mentality surely helps.

His wife’s mentality is the reason for post-career peace for Dwyane Wade

Being in the eye of the storm, the lives of celebrities are often quite difficult. While wealth and fame surely help, they can also serve as detractors. Even though popularity gets you praise, just as loud, if not louder, is the negativity.

It is especially true for the stars – with their rabid fans – of the NBA. A lot of superstars and athletes have talked about their mental health struggles owing to a variety of reasons. In such a scenario, maintaining your peace becomes ever important.

For Gabrielle Union, it is close to heart. Speaking to the Washington Post, Union revealed the mentality that has helped her walk through all the criticisms, especially after the 50-50 fiasco. “But opening myself up to what? People?s opinions? That?s just their response.”

She explained her perception of the negative comments further. “Usually reactions are less about me and more about some other part of somebody else?s life. And that?s not really my business, right? And if having strong opinions about my life brings you some modicum of peace, by all means, I don?t care. I want you to be happy and whole and peaceful. Because it don?t change mine.”?

This effortless attitude has allowed Gabrielle to face the harshest of storms. In the Wades’ lives, that came during the 50-50 debate.

The 50-50 rule in the Wade household

Being a family man is an arduous process. Perhaps, just as tough as being a top 25 player of all time. For Wade, he has seen both sides of the coin. No decision of his on the basketball court received as much vitriol as a seemingly simple household rule.

Gabrielle mentioned in an interview how the Wades split everything 50-50. While the two support families apart from their own, from their previous marriages, she lamented how the process drained her physically. Calling it a “gorilla on her back”, Union mentioned how the monetary requirements stopped her from having peace.

The fans were incensed by the comments, wondering how a $50 million worth star was making such comments. While the hate has since died down, Gabrielle’s mentality through it all would have certainly helped the Wade household’s peace.
