Load management was becoming a major problem for the NBA. However, a couple of tweaks to the rules have curbed that issue, for the most part. But, that doesn’t mean that players missing games is completely out of the equation. While most have valid reasons, whether it be health, injury, or even personal, some tend to be a little funny in context. The entire discussion became all too prevalent with news of DeAndre Ayton missing a game due to snow trapping him in his house. But, for Carmelo Anthony, he has seen much worse in his tenure in the NBA.

While discussing the Ayton incident, Melo would dive into story mode, detailing the most ridiculous excuse he ever heard for missing a game. “Somebody slipped in the shower,” the New York Knicks legends recounted. Even though he didn’t get a direct account of the situation, the whole ordeal was immediately hilarious to imagine.

Even though he was the one telling the story, even Carmelo Anthony couldn’t keep a straight face at the sheer insanity of it all.

The Denver Nuggets jersey controversy featuring Carmelo Anthony

Despite winning their first title last year, the Nuggets have been a premium franchise in the league for quite a while. As a result, the team has seen some bonified Hall of Famers walk through their halls. But, arguably the greatest among them, Melo, did not end his tenure with the team on great terms.

A trade was the eventual last resort. Since then, the Nuggets have found a new franchise cornerstone in Nikola Jokic. But, the problem comes with both Anthony and the Joker sharing the same jersey, #15. However, according to the 2013 scoring champion, that coincidence isn’t by accident.

Instead, the move was a carefully planned one to erase his contributions, or so Carmelo feels.

Fans and media alike have disputed that claim with the obvious explanation that Nikola was an anomaly. As the 41st overall pick, expectations weren’t high for the Serbian when he first came into the league. So, minimizing Carmelo Anthony might not have been the objective.

Whether it be gameplay, the tactics, the narratives, or the sheer art on display, the game speaks to me in a way few other things can.
