The Los Angeles Lakers have been mid to good to start the season. While they haven’t been world-beaters like the Minnesota Timberwolves or the Boston Celtics, they aren’t at the end of the curve either. However, their trajectory doesn’t see a dramatic change unless some moves are made. While LeBron James continues to defy Father Time with a solid number 2 in The Brow, there are a few things the team is missing.

Apart from its two superstars, a consistent option, perimeter defense, and solid shooting. Even though the team individually has all 3, no single player offers each of those luxuries. That is where fantasy bookings came into the picture. A former Laker, perhaps the greatest in the franchise’s illustrious history would fit in perfectly with those needs. That, of course, is none other than Kobe Bryant.

Speaking about a hypothetical scenario, former Laker on a short stint DeMarcus Cousins was ready to envision that dream scenario. “You put Bean on this team. With AD [Anthony Davis] and LeBron. I don’t think they lose a game.”

In a perfect dream scenario, that makes the most sense. In Kobe, James would have the perfect man to dish for open shots. Further, his perimeter defense and self-creation would take the burden off the two stars, allowing all 3 to thrive.

Imagine a Bryant-AD pick-and-roll giving defenders Shaq and Kobe nightmares! While obviously impossible, this dream pairing could sway the Lakers faithful for a trade demand. One, that would mirror in some ways the effect that Bryant would bring to the team.

While the In-Season Tournament was a cute set dressing, it was exactly that. With the legacy and the franchise at hand, the conversation for LA begins and ends with Championships. Since winning in Vegas, the team has been faltering. For losers of 4 out of 5, their spiral has been immediate.

But, the answer could come in the form of a player who brings much of the same things that the 5x Champion would. While not the defender Kobe was, Zach Lavine is lethal off the catch. Further, he can provide the two superstars with offensive juice.
